- SPACE? What the heck kind of role-play is this?
An extremely generalized one. The whole preface for SPACE is that, as people get older and earn more responsibilities in real life, they lose the ability keep up with multiple rp forums, constantly left in the wake of the far more active, younger members who can throw whole days away doing nothing but role-play. The idea is to eliminate the need to juggle multiple role-plays and, instead, allow members to indulge in all of their various fancies, all in one place, while still keeping things safe, secure, and fairly organized.
- So... it's a MUCK basically? Where each role-play is like... one thread...
WRONG! I never understood how people could manage to have fun when they take a concept, broad enough to be a whole forum, and condense it to a single thread. No, role-play scenarios here, called Chronicles, occupy whole boards. This allows you to play multiple plots, events, and characters all within the same Chronicle without dramatically confusing yourself. Also, this means many many people can participate in the same Chronicle without the need of some super massive posting order or anything... strange like that. It's simply less confusing, since not everyone has to be in the same thread all at once.
- So where is the role-play focus? You know, how the heck are you supposed to keep track of what you're doing, in terms of plots and things.
The Chronicles each have their own description, plot and information regarding species and things. So the "focus", if you will, is set for you, the same way it would be in a role-play forum, at which point you are free to explore said focus in whatever manner suits you and your storyteller.
- Who runs these role-play scenarios?
Members just like me and you. Everybody and anybody can start and run their own Chronicle, just as if they were running a forum only with a lot less work involved. You set the rules for your Chronicle, write up some rules, a plot, accept characters and keep the peace, all as if you were the admin of a forum only on a much smaller scale. Your Chronicles are your space to control, and if people do not approve of the way they do things, they are always free to set up their own Chronicle and play there instead.
- Is that really wise, giving random people so much power? What if they abuse it?
The forum as a whole has staff who will be monitoring Chronicles and Chronicle behavior. Though Storytellers have ultimate control in terms of role-play, they are still required to follow forum rules, and forum rules require that everyone respect each other. So, should a Storyteller be caught abusing his or her power within their Chronicle, the forum staff will take care of it.
- Storyteller?
That is what we call the main "administrator" of each Chronicle. It's a throw back to table top rpgs, which usually have one person act as the "storyteller", directing the plot and role-play happenings and generally keeping the peace. They serve the same function here on SPACE, basically.
- Can I be a Storyteller?
Of course. Anyone can be a Storyteller for whatever Chronicle they decide to create. But you can only run a few Chronicles at a time, so don't think you can just create things willy-nilly, left and right. Remember to join other people's Chronicles too.
- Does it matter what kind of rp Chronicle I create?
Nope. Absolutely anything is allowed to role-played on SPACE, with the exception of adult themed Chronicles. This forum is rated PG-13, with all threads involving more mature themes occurring within the mature board at the bottom of the forum where it is hidden from the public. We ask that you avoid strong sexual themes, but pretty much everything else is fair game. We actually encourage creativity here. A thousand Chronicles with the same basic plot would be rather boring, ne?
