Title: The Black Cur of Shelton Bay Category: Animal >> Dog General Theme: Stray dog rp with a hint of fantasy Description: The town of Shelton Bay, Maine is not one very well known. Especially not since the appearance of a mysterious black dog has been scaring residents away, leaving many of their pets behind. The Black Cur, as it is called, is said to bring death to those who see it and humans are fleeing in terror... or dying, and their animals want to know why. Will you dare to solve the mystery of the killer Black Cur?
Humanoid Species: None as playable characters, but human NPC's are acceptable. Animal Species: Primarily domestic dogs of any breed, but we will accept any domestic animals as playable characters. This includes cats, horses, rodents, birds, and even reptiles.
Setting: Modern day, in a stormy fictional town off the coast of Maine. Is Magic Allowed?: No (with the exception of the ghostly Black Cur himself). None of the characters are to be magical though, totally normal, realistic dogs.
Plot: The cozy marine town of Shelton Bay, Maine, used to be a renowned tourist attraction, full of sunshine and good fishing. Humans from far and wide used to bring their dogs, children, friends and families to the location for days on the beach and fun in the sun, sand and surf. However, a dark secret lay beneath the cobblestone streets of the centuries old tiny town, buried beneath its rich history and notorious wealth. But no secret can be contained forever.
One day, ten years ago, the mayor of the town decided to hold an annual parade, celebrating the life of the town's most famous resident: Maurice Shelton, a well renowned pioneer from the town's humble beginning. He did not found Shelton Bay but he contributed a lot when the original founder and mayor fell ill due to the plague. He is attributed to keeping the town alive while its mayor lay dying and is credited with the town's current fame and fortune. However, he was killed long ago when a dreadful fire swept through, killing almost every resident. Strangely, Shelton did not fight the fire but instead killed himself before it could reach his home. Though his death was strange, his life deserved to be glorified by the town's current residents, who rebuilt the place from the foundation up, only recently finishing the re-construction. And to celebrate the occasion, they held the Shelton Day parade.
But suddenly, as the parade entered the main city square, a mysterious black dog, burning with some unseen fire, swept through the crowd, setting fire to the parade floats as it ran by and killing a man when it passed right through him. The main city street still bears the beasts burn-mark pawprints, despite many re-pavings and the citizens of Shelton Bay now lay terrified. The town is split down the middle, no one daring to cross the supposedly cursed Main Street. No Man's Land, it is often called.
Any fool stupid enough to attempt to cross it at night is usually met by the sight of a massive black hound. Some are killed on sight, found the next morning, their face twisted in fear and their body rigid but uninjured, no apparent cause of death. Others simply claim to see the dog but are not bothered nor attacked by him. Instead, he just walks away, disappearing into the city hall perched at the end of the street. However, they never live long enough to give the details. All who have lived after seeing the Cur die less than 3 days after speaking of the experience. It is said that one man saw the Cur but refused to speak of it, living only until he wrote about it in a letter, at which point he was promptly struck by a car just off of Main Street. Struck dead.
With so much death, people are fleeing the city, some immediately. Some so suddenly, they leave their pets behind. Now it is up to the pets of Shelton Bay, and whomever is willing to help them, to figure out what is happening to their humans and why. Why has no dog on the east side of the city been allowed to cross the Main street to the west? Why does the main street smell so strongly of burnt flesh, death, and... fish?
Will you dare to solve the mystery of The Black Cur of Shelton Bay?
