In Character Conduct
- The majority of In Character Rules and regulations are set by the Storyteller of each Chronicle. Things such as post minimum, Point of View, the number of characters you are allowed to play in that particular Chronicle, the types of characters allowed, even the bio form that must be used. All of this varies between Chronicles so be sure to pay attention to that sort of thing.
- For those of you who are confused, Chronicles are sort of like mini-rp forums within the general SPACE forum page. They are situations/stories set up by members in which other members may role-play. Most Chronicles have very generalized themes/situations that allow for multiple types of rp. For example, a particular fantasy wolf Chronicle may be described as "a pack of dark wolves and a pack of light wolves are warring with each other over a magical object hidden in the mountains". The admin of that Chronicle (called the Storyteller) would then have to write up some rules about what is allowed and is not allowed in this particular story. For example, they may require that all characters in the Chronicle be wolves, and that all wolves have wings of some sort... or something of that nature. They may also require that everyone role-plays in the first person, and that every post be 400 words long at least.
- Each Chronicle has its own set of rules, regulations and biography format for creating characters. These rules are to be obeyed when role-playing within the Chronicle, and may be enforced by the Storyteller or Helpers the Storyteller appoints as sort of "mods" for their Chronicle. If a particular member will not obey the Storyteller, forum staff may get involved. You HAVE to obey the Storyteller when role-playing/participating within their Chronicle.
- Anyone may start a Chronicle at any time. However, you cannot control/run more than five Chronicles at a time. You may help with as many Chronicles as you'd like, or just generally be apart of as many Chronicles as you can keep track of. You just cannot be the Storyteller in more than five places at any given moment in time.
- To join a Chronicle, simply follow any instructions outlined by the Storyteller. Most Chronicles only ask you to post your character's bio in a particular "Character" thread and you simply wait to be accepted. However, some Chronicles require you to audition in some way or do some other sort of task before you are allowed to participate in the Chronicle. This is totally allowed and Storytellers have every right to deny you entry to their Chronicle. You have every right to ask why you were denied entry, but generally, if you have been denied, that is the way things will stay.
- Storytellers CANNOT deny other members entry to their Chronicle for any number of personal reasons. Meaning, you cannot deny someone participation in your story just because "they were mean to your friend" or because "you don't like them". You most certainly cannot deny them because you disagree with their opinions of certain things. Everyone here gets at least one chance in a Chronicle. If they do something that goes against Chronicle rules, then you may eject them from the game. However, you can only deny them that one chance for technical/regulational reasons (ie- their character is not the correct species or has a power your Chronicle does not allow).
- Similarly, Storytellers have every right to eject you from their Chronicle should you refuse to comply to their demands/rules. Such ejections are done through the forum staff and must be validated beforehand. Meaning, the staff must be briefed on the situation and will determine whether or not the offender really deserves ejection. So do not think that Storytellers are gods or anything. All major role-play decisions still happen through the main forum staff, who are sure to keep things logical and impersonal.
- When participating in a Chronicle, you may play as many different characters within that Chronicle as the Storyteller allows. You may also recycle characters between Chronicles. So you may play the same character in more than one Chronicle at a time, and those Chronicles may or may not be related to one another.
- When playing the same character between Chronicles, you are required to repost their bio each time. You cannot simply say "see bio in *such and such* Chronicle". You do have to post the bio again, and you may even be required to use a different form. So be it.
- Regardless of which Chronicle your are involved with,
powerplaying, godmodding and auto-killing are not allowed. Each Chronicle may lax a little more or a little less on the details of this rule, but generally, you cannot control other player's characters. Nor can you do illogical things to make your character appear super powerful or super special (for example, if a Chronicle involves your character being thrust into a foreign country, your character should not suddenly and miraculously know how to speak the language.). Finally, your character should not instantly kill another, even if that character is just an npc (non-playable character). If your character can do it to an npc, it is assumed they can do it to a real character as well. So be very mindful of that sort of thing. Let other characters have the spotlight every once in a while.
- All attacks/actions should be open ended so the character being attacked can decide whether or not they are hit. You should never describe the outcome of your own character's actions.
- You also should not have your character dodge every attack aimed at them. This is considered godmodding and is against forum rules. Depending on the Chronicle, you may be allowed to dodge more often or dodge less often. However, if it is not specified, assume you may only dodge four attacks consecutively. Four attacks, not four posts. If your character has three attacks fired at them in one post, then that post counts as three separate attacks. Be aware of that. This rule does not apply to gun fire (which may be dodged indefinitely), projectiles (ie- arrows, throwing knives, etc, which may be dodged indefinitely per post... so one post involving projectiles counts as one attack, no matter how many are thrown), and sword/blade attacks (which are treated the same way as projectiles).
- When role-playing (or doing anything for that matter), there is to be no chat speak (unless the role-play calls for it- such as an rp involving some sort of instant messenger), wolf speak (unless the Chronicle explicitly allows it), or any other deviation from normal, grammatically correct English. We do not require you to be all perfect all of the time, but posts should generally be legible and easy to understand, and should only be fudged in terms of spelling or grammar when the role-play situation calls for it. Otherwise, you should be taking advantage of the spell check at the bottom of the forum.
- Unless the Chronicle states otherwise, mature themes are only allowed in the designated board. There are to be no mature themes occurring within Chronicles themselves. If a Chronicle thread suddenly turns graphic in terms of violence or sexual under tones/activities, pause the thread for a moment, alert a staff member and they will create a thread in the Maturity board for you to use for those activities. Once that is finished, you may return to role-playing in the Chronicle thread. Be aware that, in order to use the Mature board, you must first ask a forum staff member for both the password and for them to create a thread for you to reply to (as members cannot create threads within that board). Also be aware that you cannot use the Mature board to role-play a mature situation within a Chronicle that does not allow such themes. Be very mindful of that.
- Similarly, cursing and other such character behaviors is only allowed within Chronicles that allow it. Some may ask you keep it to a minimum, others ask that you do not do it at all. Be mindful of such rules and regulations.
- All other basic rules and regulations are to be determined by the Storyteller within individual Chronicles.
